To The Cafe Love!
I took Viktor's note and put it in the bottom of my jewelry box. Then I began getting ready for work, after taking a shower and putting on my uniform, I put on the pin that Viktor gave to me, some make-up, a little perfume and then braided my hair. With a last look in the mirror, I locked the apartment door and headed for my car.
It was a short drive to the cafe, as I opened up, my mind was still on Viktor, the only man I had ever loved. Shortly after I opened, Susan and Lisa came in, Lisa walked up to me and said: "Miss Christensen, I mean Glory, thank-you for last night, I really enjoyed myself." Susan, who was standing nearby looked up and said: "Me too, Glory. It was fun to have a few men with us. I kind of like that guy Mark that Viktor brought along." I smiled and said: "You are both very welcome. And as for Mark, Susan; he is one of Viktor's pilots. If you are saying that you would like to see more of him, that can be arranged!"
Susan began to turn red as she said: “I didn’t mean it like that Gloy, but if we should happen to be in the same place, I am not going to turn my back on him. Mark is a good looking man, and I enjoy talking with him.” Lisa walked up behind us and softly said: “If you want to talk about men, I don’t think Sam is such a bad catch either! Glory you can arrange for Sam and I to be together as often as you wish. Maybe next time we could go someplace a little more private. But I would feel a little guilty, if everyone has a man except Marie and Ellen. If you are going to start playing match-maker Glory, you are going to need to find someone for them too.”
I said: “I am not a match-maker Lisa, I didn’t even know that Viktor was bringing Mark and Sam. Or that you and Susan were going to fall in love with them. But this is the ‘Cafe Love’ after all!” Then we all started laughing and got back to work.
As Lisa went from table to table making sure our customers were satisfied, an old man sitting by himself at one of the small tables for two stopped her as she walked by: “Miss!”, she stopped and said: “Yes Sir? May I get you something?” He replied: “I see all of you gals are wearing these beautiful little pins now. Where did you get them?” Lisa smiled and said: “Thank-you Sir, they were given to us by Mr. Anderson, who owns Anderson’s Jewelry down the street. They are beautiful aren’t they.” Lisa refilled his cup, and asked: “Can I get you something Sir?” He said: “Well, I’ll take another donut Miss. And would you ask Miss Christensen to come see me?”She said: “Yes Sir.” As Lisa walked behind the counter to get his donut, she said: “Glory, that old white haired Gentlman at table seven, is asking to see you!”
I walked out to table seven where the old man was sitting, and said: “Good morning Daniel, what can I do for you?” He stopped eating his donut, setting it on the plate he said: “Miss Glory Christensen, you are more beautful than a woman has any right to be. How do you expect us old men to keep control of ourselves, when you keep walking around looking like a Goddess? The reason I asked your pretty waitress to have you come over is because I thought you might be willing to tell one of your old customers what is going on. I don’t know Mr. Anderson, but jewelry stores don’t go around handing out beautiful pins like you and your waitresses are wearing. Not even to beautiful women like yourself!”
I said: “You are right Daniel, Viktor is not in the habit of giving away jewelry. But he thought the girls and I were like a sorority, so he had his jeweler make these pins for us. But I guess the real answer to your question Daniel, is Viktor and I are going to get married,” and held out my ring to him. Daniel took my hand and said: “Well, it’s about time you found someone Glory. I am very happy for you, you deserve a Gentleman like Viktor Anderson for your husband. Whenis the big day?” I said: “We have not set a day yet, but we are thiking about sometime next year.”
The rest of the day was uneventful, when Ellen and Marie came in that evening, I home ate dinner, and then sat on my couch ad watched a movie. Before long I fell asleep on the couch with the lights on and the T.V. still running. Sunday morning I awoke to Viktor knocking on my door. I jumped up, ran to the door, opened it for him and threw myself into his arms, before he even had a chance to come in or say ‘Hello’. He said: “Well, I hoped you would be happy to see me, but I didn’t expect this! What are you doing still in your work clothes?” I said: “I am sorry Honey, I sat down to watch a movie last night and fell asleep on the couch. Come in and have a seat I’ll shower and change into something. Go ahead and make some coffee if you want it, and I’ll be ready before long.” I went into the bedroom and Viktor sat down on the couch. As I walked into my bedroom I said: “Come on in Honey, unless you would rather sit out there alone!”
