As I looked up, the most handsome man I have ever seen came walking into my cafe. As he walked up to the counter, I could not stop staring at him. When he sat down, he looked up at me with a big smile: "Good afternoon Miss, may I have a cup of coffee?" I answered: "Yes Sir," and quickly returned with a cup and a fresh pot of coffee. As I poured him a cup he said: "I hope I don't seem too forward by saying this; but you are a very beautiful young woman!"
That was more than I could take, and I must have turned as red as a rose, because he gave me another of his big smiles and said: "I am truly sorry Miss, I did not mean to embarrass you!" I said: "That's okay Sir, thanks for the compliment," and moved on to take care of my other customers. He just sat there drinking his coffee and watched me. When I returned to fill his cup, he lifted his eyes and looked into mine without binking or saying a word. He had a look on his face as if he wanted something, so I asked: "Sir, can I get you something?" He answered: "No thank-you, Miss. Unless, well, by any chance would you be free for dinner this evening?"
Now it was my turn to give him a big smile as I said: "Sir, a lady always loves to have a handsome man ask her out to dinner, but I never accept a dinner invitation when I don't even know the Gentleman's name!" He replied: "Forgive me Miss, my name is Viktor Anderson. I just bought the jewelry store two blocks down the street. I don't know many folks in Sacramento yet, and I would love to make a few friends."
What could I say? The most handsome man I could ever dream of meeting walks into the "Cafe Love", and asks me out to dinner! I was afraid that I was going to wake-up and find I had only been dreaming. I was not about to let this handsome hunk of masculinity slip through my fingers!
I pretended to think Viktor Anderson's offer over for a couple minutes, and then said softly: "Mr. Anderson, my name is Glory Christensen, and I would love to have dinner with you. I am free this evening after five, when my evening waitress comes in. Can you meet me here at eight?" It was all I could do to keep from laughing, a look came over Viktor's face which reminded me of a young boy when he asks a girl out and she accepts for the first time. With a big smile Viktor said: "Yes, Miss Christensen, that will be fine. I will see you here at eight then." Then I went back to my other customers.
When Viktor finished his coffee, he slowly got up and walked over to my cashier and paid for the coffee. As Viktor was leaving, he stopped by the door and stood there looking at me for a few moments before walking out into the street. Karren, my cashier came over and said: "Well Glory, it looks like you found a hot one for tonight, who was that guy anyway?" I just smiled and said: "His name is Viktor, he bought that jewelry store down the steet that was for sale. As for a hot date, we'll see, he'll probably get cold feet before tonight!" We both laughed and got back to work. The rest of the day I couldn't
stop thinking about Viktor, he was the most handsome man who had ever shown any interest in me in many years.
Ellen, my evening waitress, came in just before five as she always did. As Karren and I got ready to leave, Ellen asked: "What's the big rush Glory? Got a hot date tonight?" Before I could answer her, Karren said: "You will see soon enough Ellen, then you can make up your own mind whether Glory has a good reason to be in a hurry or not!" As I headed for the door I said: "I will tell you all about it tomorrow evening Ellen!" I hurried home and took a long hot bath. With the day's dirt gone, and thoughts of Viktor filling my mind, I did my hair and make-up. As I headed for my closet, it was hard to make up my mind what to wear. I had to make sure I was sexy enough that Viktor would want to keep asking me out, but I didn't want to over do it either. Finally I chose a royal blue gown, which reveiled enough to guarantee I could keep any man's attention, but it was also concealing enough to make Viktor use his imagination. Next I chose my white heals and purse, and finished it off with my white rabbit's fur coat, diamond earrings and necklace, and some perfume. I took one last look in the mirror to make sure everything was alright and headed back to the cafe.
While driving back, I began to wonder if Viktor might be one of those people who are against fur coats. At first I thought it might be better to leave my coat at the cafe, but this coat ment a lot to me, it was made from the fur of rabbits I had raised myself when I was in high school. If Viktor said anything about my coat, I would tell him the story behind it. Viktor seemed to be the kind of man who would understand that these rabbits had not been killed for no reason, we ate every one of them!
When I walked into the cafe, Ellen acted as if she didn't even recognize me. Then she said: "Glory, is that you?" I laughed and said: "Yes Ellen, it's really me. Has Mr. Anderson shown up yet?" Ellen just stood there looking at me and shaking her head. Then she said: "Glory, it is hard to believe you are the same woman I work for! I have seen women change after work, but you are absolutely stunning. I always knew you were a beautiful woman, but I had no idea that you are such a gorgeous Lady!" After a short pause she said: "No Glory, Mr. Anderson has not arrived yet, but when he does, it will be love at first sight." Ellen was not the kind of woman who went around handing out complements, so it was strange to hear her talking like this.
I said: "Come on Ellen, all ladies love to be told how beautiful they are, and I thank you for the complement. But don't you think "Gorgeous" and "Absolutly stunning" are over doing it? I am not that good looking." I heard a deep masculine voice behind me say: "No Glory, it is the understatement of the year. I see a lot of women come through my stores, and you are the most beautiful woman I have seen in a long time!"
When I turned around, I found Viktor standing there holding a bouquet of red roses out to me. He was standing there with that big smile of his, looking about as happy as a man can be. As I reached out to take the bouquet he said: "Glory, if you are ready, I know of a reataurant I am sure you will enjoy." Viktor had me feeling so beautiful and
feminine, that for the first time in my life, I didn't know what to say or do. He slipped his arm around my waist and we walked out of the cafe together.
As we walked up to Viktor's car, I got my first surprise that evening. Viktor's car was a 1937 Cadilac Fleetwood Converable. He had it painted black, and the interior was such a dark red, that at first I thought it was black too. Viktor opened the door for me, and as I sat down, I said: "Viktor, this is a beautiful car, I cold fall in love with a car like this!" As he close the door, heard him say very softly: "I hope so Glory, and I hope you fall in love with
me too!"
When Viktor got in he started the motor which was so smooth and quiet that it was hard to tell it was even running. Then he put on some music that would have been perfect for a candle light dinner. As we pulled out into the street I asked: "Where are we going Viktor?" He
looked over at me with the cutest 'Little Boy' look on his face and said: "You will see Glory, it won't take long. I want to make sure you remember this night for a long time."
I wanted to know what Viktor was up to, but he was doing his best to make this a special night, and it seemed best to let him keep his surprise. before long we were turning into the airport. I said:
"Viktor, there aren't any restaurants at the airport. Do you have business to take care of first?" Viktor answered: "No Glory, there aren't any restaurants here, and I don't have any business to take care of tonight. I set this night aside for you alone. I came here because this is where I have my hanger and jet. I hope you are not afraid of flying, I should have asked you first."
I said: No Viktor, I love to fly. Sometimes I pay one of the local pilots to take me up for a few hours, and just fly around the valley. If you are going to take me flying, this is a night I won't forget!" He smiled and said: "I thought so Glory, I can usually spot a woman who loves to fly. I am always going somewhere with my business, you are welcome to come along whenever you want. Well here we are!" As Viktor pulled up to his hanger, a man pulled the doors open and Viktor parked the car next to his jet. She was a beautiful plane, tan with light blue trimming. There was a second man waiting inside
who opened my door, then went around to Viktor and said: "Sir, your plane will be ready shortly!"
Viktor took my hand and led me into a small office which he used for a waiting room. He had a old oak desk and liquor cabinett on one side, and a small couch and closet on the other. After hanging our coats in the closed, Viktor had me sit on the couch while he went over to the cabinett and made us a drink. He took out two glasses and put some ice in them, then he took out a beautiful red crystal bottle which looked like it must be at least one hundred years old and poured me a drink.
He poured some Brandy for himself and brought them over to the couch. As he handed the glass to me he said: "Try this Glory, I think you will like it. It is a Rose Liqueur made for me by my friends in Los Angeles." I took the glass and tried a sip. It was rose red, just like the bottle, and tasted as good as the roses Viktor had given to me eailer were beautiful.
After a couple sips I said: "Viktor, this is really good. I have neve tasted anything like it before, do you think your friends would be willing to make a few bottles for me?" Viktor laughed and said: "Yes Glory, I am sure they will make as much as you want; but you don't need to wait, when we return I will give you a couple bottles."
One of the two men knocked on the door, then he poked his head in and said: "Sir, everything is ready when you are!" Viktor stood up and said: "Well Glory, are you ready for a night flight?" I said: "Yes Viktor, this will be the first time I went flying after dark. Where are we going?" Viktor said: "Well there is a beautiful little sea food restaurant not too far from my store in San Francisco. I thought I would take you there." While Viktor was saying this, he took my coat out of the closet and helped me put it on, then put on his own coat. As he slipped his arm around my waist, he gave me a little kiss and said: "Glory, you are truly a beautiful woman!" Then he turned and started to head for the door. But I stopped him and said: "Viktor, if you are going to kiss me, give me a real kiss!" Viktor took me in his arms and said: "I hoped you would say that," and gave me a kiss I won't forget for a long time. I said: "Now that is more like it Viktor, you can give me another one of those anytime you want!"
Viktor slipped his arm around my waist again and walked me out to his plane. His men had her parked outside the hanger with her jets idiling, one of them was waiting for us at the door and the other was already in the plane. As we sat down the man closed the door and joined the other pilot in the cockpit.
